Dave and Lindsay will both teach one session a day for one of the general instrument classes which will be graded into ‘slower’ and ‘faster’.  The ‘slower’ class is for people who are less experienced on their instrument or who learn tunes by ear more slowly.  The ‘faster’ class is for those who are more experienced on their instrument and who learn by ear more quickly.  You can select your class when you arrive at camp.  All tunes will be taught by ear.

We also will be running an accompaniment class each morning for 30 minutes before the main instrumental class begins. This is open for all instruments and will cover:

  • Chord progressions
  • Rhythmic ideas
  • Guide tones
  • Chord substitutions
  • Drones

The general instrument classes will cover:

  • Learning tunes by ear
  • Phrasing
  • Melodic and rhythmic variation
  • Ornamentation
  • Regional stylistic differences

  1. Hello Dave, Jo & Jem. Great to know you are able to offer tune classes in January, details only made aware from Australian friends whilst away overseas in Ireland in last month attending summer schools. Intend to make deposit next day or so re booking as need to check work diary and travel options. Will be a great alternative but unfortunately will miss attending the yearly Southern Cross School. Best of luck with venture! – regards Michael de Bomford
