Classes

Workshops are based on learning tunes by ear. There are two class options, one for people who are less experienced on their instrument or who learn more slowly by ear, and one for people who are more experienced on their instrument and who learn more quickly by ear. You can select your class when you arrive, and change classes during camp if needed. Dave and Sarah will both teach one workshop a day for each of the classes.

Workshops will cover:

  • Learning tunes by ear
  • Phrasing
  • Melodic and rhythmic variation
  • Ornamentation
  • Regional stylistic differences

Dave will also run an accompaniment workshop each morning before the main workshops begin. If we have a lot of interest in accompaniment we may bring another tutor on to expand the accompaniment workshops.  This class is open to all instruments, and will cover:

  • Chord progressions
  • Rhythmic ideas
  • Guide tones
  • Chord substitutions
  • Drones
